He also serves as Associate Director for Moving Medicine Forward, a non-profit led by Dr. Michael Klaper that is building a new generation of physicians who are prepared to tackle our chronic disease burden. A plant-based nutrition advocate, Dr. Burns practices medicine to improve the lives of human and non-human beings.
Hi, I’m Jenelle Longo, a passionate health coach committed to helping people transform their lives through whole food plant-based nutrition. My journey began as a nurse practitioner in 2015, where I quickly realized that true health is about more than just managing symptoms—it’s about empowering people to take control of their well-being. My plant-based journey started over a decade ago when an initial mammogram indicated a heightened risk for breast cancer. Research into the lifestyle changes I could make to reduce my cancer risk led me to a plant-based diet. I have since developed a passion for the evidence-based science behind a whole-food plant-based diet for optimum health. I am certified in plant-based nutrition through the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at eCornell and earned my initial health coach certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). I have also completed the Lifestyle Medicine for Coaches training, offered jointly by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and Wellcoaches, and earned an additional certification in Plant-based Coaching through the Food Revolution Network. I am currently preparing for the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches Certification Exam. As a complement to my work as a health coach, I am a certified yoga instructor, Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist, and Jazzercise instructor, passionate about lifelong fitness, movement, and mindfulness. Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege to work with individuals in clinical, wellness, and mental health settings. Many of these individuals were taking an exorbitant amount of medications to manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. As a result of simple dietary changes to include wholesome plant foods, many were able to eliminate medications for these conditions. In fact, one individual lost over 100 pounds, which actually disqualified him from weight loss surgery.
My hope is that through engagement, and empowerment, I can assist individuals to incorporate principles of a whole food plant-based lifestyle to restore health and prevent the onset of chronic diet-related conditions.
I’ve been diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and have been working with an integrative oncologist whom recommended going vegan or vegetarian. When I asked if there was any support the response was just google some recipes. This didn’t sit well with me and I dove headfirst to learn everything I can about whole food plant based diets and how to adapt this lifestyle in a way that works for me.
I now have no evidence of disease in my body and have learned to recognize how I feel in my body when adhering to a whole food plant based diet and when I have veered off of the diet. I’m on a mission to support others to incorporate Whole Foods into their diet creating a lifestyle that fits their needs. After graduating in Hannover medical school I specialised in internal medicine and occupational health.
My plant-based journey began in 2014. I realised there is more to be done for doctors than prescribing “a pill for every ill”.

I have followed a plant based diet for 2 years. I first realized the importance of a plant based diet by watching the Food Revolution Network Summit 3 years ago. I recently graduated from the Food Revolution Network’s Plant Based Coaching Certification course.
Since getting off of processed foods and eating plant based, I am enjoying more energy and no longer having achy joints. I have also lost weight and kept it off for the first time in my life.
