SUZANNAH BOZZONE, MD For years, I was prescribing medicine I wouldn’t take myself and frustrated by the seemingly incurable state of our most prevalent, deadly and costly chronic diseases. Finally, I found Lifestyle Medicine, which is not only strongly evidence-based, but resonates with my desire to treat myself, my family and my patients more in accordance with nature’s guidance and, most importantly, addressing diseases from their root causes, rather than covering up symptoms. Best of all, this method empowers patients, rather than dictating dependence on our pharmaceutically-driven medical system. Dr. Bozzone moved to the Chattanooga area from Sonoma, CA, where she worked for six years in private practice and community health. She previously served as the Medical Director of Wellness at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Dr. Bozzone is happily married with three young children and loves to swim, practice yoga and sing in any spare moment she can find.
I am passionate about helping women and their families gain control of their health. I meet you where you are and together we build personalized, integrative plans that focus on building foundations of optimal health. My lifelong interest in promoting and encouraging healthy lifestyles began as a young gymnast years ago. I competed at the elite level, was a member of the U.S. National Team, and earned a full scholarship to the Stanford University Women’s Gymnastics Team. After four years as a Division I NCAA student-athlete, I began training and racing triathlons while earning my master’s degree. After graduating I helped build sports programs for kids in Japan, organized triathlons and led bike tours in the Southwest, and managed the sports program for Special Olympics Nevada. I then spent three years inspiring audience members performing as a professional acrobat in Cirque du Soleil’s KA at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, while also continuing to participate in full-distance triathlons. I was then introduced to naturopathic medicine during a 4,500-mile, self-supported bicycle trip with my husband where we witnessed the unequivocal interconnectedness of the environment and health. I was motivated to learn more and earned my naturopathic doctorate degree from Bastyr University while growing our family. I now have my own, small private practice in Maple Valley, WA where I encourage, coach, and help patients live their best life in person and via telemedicine. As a mom of three, I understand the juggle of home, work, school, play, self-care, and all the roles that come with being a mother. My passion is helping you navigate your own juggle so that you can optimize both your own and your family’s health. I cannot wait to hear your story!
Dr Teresa Diaz has a Medical Degree from Rutgers University, and is an accomplished Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBGYN) surgeon. As a psychology major at San Francisco State University, Dr Teresa understands the emotional and psychological components of lifestyle change and weight loss.  She’s certified in Age Management Medicine, a member of The Institute for Functional Medicine and studied holistic nutrition at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I specialize in hormone balancing, menopause, gut health and plant based nutrition.  While Dr Teresa has impressive credentials within the fields of medicine, psychology and nutrition, it’s her ability to have overcome unimaginable trauma that makes her truly unique and special.  Growing up in the ghettos of New York, Dr Teresa has personally dealt with the pain of childhood physical & sexual abuse, racism, poverty and sexism. She’s lost (and kept off) over 120 lbs and knows in her heart, with the right guidance and support, every challenge can be overcome!
I was trained at LAC-USC completing the following: Â Internal Medicine Residency, Nutrition Fellowship (where I managed a diabetic ward for 3 years, did research in Nutrition, and was the director of a weight loss clinic for many years while I completed the following fellowships and residencies: Â Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship, Anesthesia Residency, and Challenged the Pain Boards.) Â As I progressed through my career and took on the care of my aging parents I realized that I did not want to suffer from some of their health problems. Â I began to read more and more about nutrition and realized that many of the questions that we had during my nutrition fellowship now had real answers. Â Excellent studies now existed that revealed most if not all chronic diseases and many cancers had their origin in poor nutrtion. Â My prior eating habits mirrored the Standard American Diet as did my developing chronic diseases…Hypertension, Elevated Lipids, possibly Pre-Diabetes, Artherosclerois, Cardiac Arrythmias, and Obesity. Â While taking care of my aging parents I did cerebral MRI studies on them and both had small cerebral infarcts too numerous to count. Â As I read more and more and after attending my first Plantrician Program, I decided overnight to switch my eating profile from the SAD (Standard American Diet) to a Whole Food Plant Based Nutrition lifestyle. Â My chronic diseases melted away. Â While I continue practice anesthesia and interventional pain medicine, I have been enhancing my plant-based medical care to both my patients and others that are interested. Â All of the patients that I come in contact with receive nutritional advice and care along with the care they originally came for. Â For those that take to heart my nutritional advice and care, the results are nice. Â

Read more…I count myself amongst the lucky ones. In contrast, to most medical school educations, I had the privilege of spending hundreds of hours in nutrition during my doctorate at Sonoran University (previously Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine) and it was there that I first became exposed to the likes of Ornish, Esselstyn, Campbell, Goldhamer and others, to name a few. The underlying tenants that I practice, embrace a philosophy of health and wellness rooted in prevention. To this end, nutrition is central to all health and a Whole Food Plant Based orientation is quite simply, the best way to accomplish this task. I remember an instance several years ago when my son, Silas, came home from school, recounting a story of one of his 6-year old classmates, who brought not one, but two cans of Mountain Dew in his packed lunch. As I sighed and braced myself for the inevitable, why-can’t-I-have-soda-in-my-lunch question, I pondered how best to answer his concerns. But, he never asked that question. Instead he stated with some level of resignation in his voice, “Well, mom, I guess that’s what we should expect from some kids, after all, his mom isn’t a Naturopathic doctor.” In my mind, that moment crystallizes a couple of principles that seem to characterize the WFPB lifestyle and my own core values. (1) Practice what you preach and be the change you wish to see in the world. (2) Change is often caught rather than taught, often when we least expect it, even though it can seem difficult or even insurmountable.

Read more…Since going plant based ten years ago, I  have been able to restore my own health and also help my patients wean off medications .  It all started by attending a lecture by T Colin Campbell that showed the link between what you eat and cancer , which has plaqued my family .  So, I was curious to learn more , so I purchased his book : The China Study .  While reading it , I slowly pushed the animal products out off of my plate .  I decided to go full plant based for just a week to see if I could do it .  Then, I kept going  and after one month, I was able to wean off my blood pressure medications and acid reflux medication ( that I used for fifteen years ) .  Â
Since then, I have read up to 35 books on the topic of plant based nutrition , regulary listen to plant based podcasts ( Rich Roll, The Exam Room , PBN , No Meat Athlete , PlantStrong ) .  I have attended numerous conferences on plant based medicine and became Board Certified in Lifestyle Medicine in 2019 .
It has changed the way I look at diseases . Â Instead of simply prescribing a medication , I start by asking what you had for breakfast . Â I have been able to reverse diabetes, hypertension , hyperlipidemia and reduce joint pain , inflammation by removing processed foods , animal products and adding more whole plant foodsÂ

After graduating from medical school (University of Cologne, Germany) in 2002, I commenced my post graduate training in anaesthesiology at the Tulane University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Owed to Hurricane Katrina it was necessary to relocate and I seized the opportunity to complete my residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard University) in Boston. My initial inclination was to pursue a career in cardiovascular and thoracic anaesthesia and underwent fellowship training at the Texas Heart Institute (Baylor College of Medicine) in Houston. For visa related reasons I returned to Europe where I trained in critical care worked in adult and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia. In 2012 we decided to move to New Zealand where I first completed another fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care before I accepted a permanent position as a consultant anaesthetist in a small rural hospital in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Only then did I look beyond my “specialist horizon” and realised that applied human nutrition holds the key to better health and a sustainable healthcare system. The classic approach to medicine will always have its place and remains the last line of defence but primary prevention and chronic disease reversal with evidence based nutrition is equally important.
I am a board certified Family Physician and in Lifestyle Medicine Physician. Â I am truly committed in helping my patients obtain optimal health and reverse their chronic diseases using the power of plant based nutrition!
I delight in empowering my patients to manage their acute and chronic disease through application of lifestyle interventions such as whole food plant-based diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, avoiding risky behaviors, and connection; I am certified in lifestyle medicine with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and I am actively involved in my community by giving presentations on plants as medicine, the Blue Zones, and the role that animal production plays in climate change and the environment. I am particularly interested in outreach to the Hispanic community, as many members have chronic diseases but no access to health insurance and limited resources. I am also a Food for Life instructor with PCRM.org, offering health and cooking classes in my community.
