I am retired but volunteer my time at free clinics, teach free community classes, and council for free those wishing to transition to a more whole food plant based lifestyle. I have spent 8 years in Family Practice, almost 27 years in Emergency Medicine, and the last 12 years in Lifestyle Medicine. My goal is to help transform the practice of medicine from a “pill for every ill” to treating the root causes of our chronic illnesses.

Beth has experienced her own transformation through plant-based eating. In December, 2017, she had to leave her job of 30 years as a music educator due to her own battles with pain and weight issues. She encountered challenges in carrying out basic activities such as going up stairs or participating in meetings. She could no longer even imagine setting up the stage for my middle school orchestra!
Her journey from pain to relief began in 2018 after watching the movie, “Forks Over Knives”. Having recently completing the research for her EdD dissertation, she gained a greater understanding and admiration for the research and outcomes showcased in this film. It was truly impressive to see the profound influence of dietary changes on people’s lives, which was both evident and inspiring!
Since then, she has gained valuable knowledge and skills. She recently achieved Root-Cause Health Coach certification from Lifestyle Prescriptions University, following previous certifications in Plant-based Coaching from the Food Revolution Network, and Whole Foods Plant-based Nutrition from Cornell University. Through this journey, she has shed 50 pounds and maintained the weight loss, was able to discontinue BP medication after 22 years, and at the age of 68, even jogged the whole way to the end of her first-ever 5K race! She is now enthusiastic about assisting others in their health endeavors, supporting them through each step of the way!

It became progressively disheartening to see the growing emphasis on use of prescription drugs for almost every issue. While these medications are beneficial when used appropriately, many patients have forgotten about their own ability to optimally care for their bodies through healthy diet and lifestyle choices, which can frequently prevent the need for drugs. Enjoying a Whole-Food Plant-Based (WFPB) diet for several years has improved my life in every way and I relish preparing and eating food more than ever before. I want the same for all patients who hope for a better life and desire this knowledge. I now use my NC Medical Board license to empower patients to achieve their own health goals through coaching and, if desired, adjunctive therapy with professional clinical hypnosis. Read more…Dr. Michelle Loy, MD, DipABOIM, DipABLM, DABMA, FAAP, is a nationally recognized physician who received her magna cum laude degree in Psychology from Harvard College, her MD from Weill Cornell Medical College, her pediatrics residency training from New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell, and her Integrative Medicine Fellowship training from Columbia University/Stamford Hospital. She completed certification in Medical Acupuncture from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She is board certified in Integrative Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Medical Acupuncture, and Pediatrics.
