I love general primary care medicine and have a special interest in mental health, women’s health and empowering patients to live a healthy lifestyle. I value listening to patients, building relationships with them, and providing thorough, compassionate, evidence-based care. I live in Roswell with my husband and two young boys and am fluent in Spanish.
I have been vegan since early 2019 and am happy to encourage and advise patients who are vegan or who are shifting more plant-based. A plant-based diet is sustainable for our planet, promotes kindness to all living beings, and can improve your health and wellbeing. Whether you’re a lifelong vegan or just considering getting started on your plant-based journey, I’m happy to chat about food and nutrition as well as all your other healthcare needs and concerns.
After graduating from medical school (University of Cologne, Germany) in 2002, I commenced my post graduate training in anaesthesiology at the Tulane University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Owed to Hurricane Katrina it was necessary to relocate and I seized the opportunity to complete my residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard University) in Boston. My initial inclination was to pursue a career in cardiovascular and thoracic anaesthesia and underwent fellowship training at the Texas Heart Institute (Baylor College of Medicine) in Houston. For visa related reasons I returned to Europe where I trained in critical care worked in adult and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia. In 2012 we decided to move to New Zealand where I first completed another fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care before I accepted a permanent position as a consultant anaesthetist in a small rural hospital in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Only then did I look beyond my “specialist horizon” and realised that applied human nutrition holds the key to better health and a sustainable healthcare system. The classic approach to medicine will always have its place and remains the last line of defence but primary prevention and chronic disease reversal with evidence based nutrition is equally important.
In New Zealand only registered dieticians are allowed to dispense dietary advice. Hence I will only provide general education on evidence based nutrition and NOT individual dietary advice.

I am particularly interested in outreach to the Hispanic community, as many members have chronic diseases but no access to health insurance and limited resources. I am also a Food for Life instructor with PCRM.org, offering health and cooking classes in my community.

Read more…Driven by an unwavering dedication to health and well-being, Niki Davis, MD, made a transformative shift from a career in rocket science to become a board-certified family and lifestyle medicine physician. Her journey began as a young teen when she conscientiously started eliminating animal products from her diet due to health concerns. Despite earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and contributing significantly to the space shuttle program, her true passion was rooted in health and nutrition. Motivated by the aspiration to enhance both her own and her family’s well-being, she wholeheartedly embraced a plant-based lifestyle.
Rekindling her profound interest in health, Dr. Davis redirected her path, leaving her engineering career to pursue medical studies. She graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2017 and completed a rigorous Family Medicine residency program in 2020. During her residency tenure, she not only served as Wellness Chief but also co-founded Plant Based Montana, an advocacy group dedicated to educating healthcare providers and the public about the advantages of a plant-based diet.
Dr. Davis is a sought-after speaker at national and virtual plant-based events and has had the privilege of learning from esteemed mentors such as Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Anthony Lim, Dr. Laurie Marbas, and Dr. Alan Goldhamer, among others. She is a regular guest on Chef AJ’s YouTube channel, holds a certificate in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies via eCornell, and is certified in The Starch Solution. She is on the board of directors for Plant Based Support.
Passionate about Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Davis offers TeleHealth appointments through LifestyleTelemedicine.com, aiming to provide comprehensive care and guidance to individuals seeking a healthier lifestyle. In addition, she runs plant based wellness retreats in locations around the world.
