Dr. Young is an Arizona native who grew up in Cave Creek and now lives in north Scottsdale with her husband, Jon, and four kids. She is a currently practicing, board-certified, Emergency Medicine physician working and is certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. She graduated medical school from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, AZ in 2006 and completed Emergency Medicine residency at Maricopa Medical Center in 2009. She has been practicing for 15 years.
As an Emergency Medicine physician, Dr. Young sees patients at their most critical points, frequently on the worst day of their lives. Her job is to stabilize, rule out life-threatening conditions and treat any acute illnesses. Often what brings patients to the emergency department are things that could have been avoided with lifestyle changes. Heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes are among the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States. Through lifestyle changes, patients are able to significantly reduce their risk for all of these!
Dr. Young loves working in the emergency department but found herself wishing she had more time to spend with patients. When she sees patients in the ED, she can touch briefly on simple things they can do to take charge of their health, but her interactions are limited by time. She is excited to start Sozo Lifestyle Medicine so that she can change her pace, develop relationships with her patients and help support them as they take charge of their health. Through lifestyle interventions that reverse chronic disease as well as her skillset as an Emergency Medicine physician, she will do her best to help her patients stay healthy and out of the emergency department.
Her hope for Sozo is to create a place of community, health, service, life and joy.
At Sozo Lifestyle Medicine Dr. Young provides care based on the the direct care model. Sozo provides membership-based medical care inspired by the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model. Under the DPC model, the patient pays a monthly membership fee and receives health care directly from the physician. DPC practices do not participate in any insurance plans, allowing physicians to focus on caring for the patient rather than excessive documentation demands and overhead costs associated with billing insurance companies. This means less stress, no co-pays, relaxed visits and direct access to your doctor.

Finally, I found Lifestyle Medicine, which is not only strongly evidence-based, but resonates with my desire to treat myself, my family and my patients more in accordance with nature’s guidance and, most importantly, addressing diseases from their root causes, rather than covering up symptoms. Best of all, this method empowers patients, rather than dictating dependence on our pharmaceutically-driven medical system. Dr. Bozzone moved to the Chattanooga area from Sonoma, CA, where she worked for six years in private practice and community health. She previously served as the Medical Director of Wellness at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Dr. Bozzone is happily married with three young children and loves to swim, practice yoga and sing in any spare moment she can find.

Read more…Since going plant based ten years ago, I have been able to restore my own health and also help my patients wean off medications . It all started by attending a lecture by T Colin Campbell that showed the link between what you eat and cancer , which has plaqued my family . So, I was curious to learn more , so I purchased his book : The China Study . While reading it , I slowly pushed the animal products out off of my plate . I decided to go full plant based for just a week to see if I could do it . Then, I kept going and after one month, I was able to wean off my blood pressure medications and acid reflux medication ( that I used for fifteen years ) .
Since then, I have read up to 35 books on the topic of plant based nutrition , regulary listen to plant based podcasts ( Rich Roll, The Exam Room , PBN , No Meat Athlete , PlantStrong ) . I have attended numerous conferences on plant based medicine and became Board Certified in Lifestyle Medicine in 2019 .
It has changed the way I look at diseases . Instead of simply prescribing a medication , I start by asking what you had for breakfast . I have been able to reverse diabetes, hypertension , hyperlipidemia and reduce joint pain , inflammation by removing processed foods , animal products and adding more whole plant foods
I practice General Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.
My main focus is improving overall wellness by addressing the major pillars of Lifestyle : Sleep , Physical Activity , Nutrition , Avoidance of risky substances , Mental wellness , Weight management and Stress management through mindfulness practice

Read more…After graduating from medical school (University of Cologne, Germany) in 2002, I commenced my post graduate training in anaesthesiology at the Tulane University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Owed to Hurricane Katrina it was necessary to relocate and I seized the opportunity to complete my residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard University) in Boston. My initial inclination was to pursue a career in cardiovascular and thoracic anaesthesia and underwent fellowship training at the Texas Heart Institute (Baylor College of Medicine) in Houston. For visa related reasons I returned to Europe where I trained in critical care worked in adult and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia. In 2012 we decided to move to New Zealand where I first completed another fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care before I accepted a permanent position as a consultant anaesthetist in a small rural hospital in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Only then did I look beyond my “specialist horizon” and realised that applied human nutrition holds the key to better health and a sustainable healthcare system. The classic approach to medicine will always have its place and remains the last line of defence but primary prevention and chronic disease reversal with evidence based nutrition is equally important.
In New Zealand only registered dieticians are allowed to dispense dietary advice. Hence I will only provide general education on evidence based nutrition and NOT individual dietary advice.
