Dermatologic care
I am a dermatologist raised on a Western diet, who converted to plant-based eating nearly 5 years ago after being forced to read The China Study for my wife’s birthday present. She knew that I would be convinced as an epidemiologist if I read the data, and she was right. I am an academic dermatologist at the University of Utah. I am currently on a two-year sabbatical working as a senior medical officer in dermatology at Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand to experience a quality national healthcare system firsthand.
As a dermatologist, my research and clinical focus has been to understand what matters most to his patients and how his patients’ skin issues affect their quality of life. This links well with my goal to help patients transition to a plant-based lifestyle. I am also keenly aware of how complicated health insurance is, and often, how patients are required to pay for more of their care and treatments out-of-pocket. I spend time trying to identify the most cost-effective care for my patients and have made this knowledge available online at medicalsecrets.com.

Hi! I’m a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Lifestyle Medicine-Certified Physician Specialist practicing in Manhattan, NYC. I am also certified in Integrative Dermatology and a double-certified Life and Transformational Mindset Coach! I studied design and visual arts at Harvard College, where I graduated magna cum laude, and then went on to get both my M.D. and my Master’s Degree in Public Health at Columbia University. The great joy of my life and career right now is combining my love of aesthetics (visual arts), investigative medicine (figuring out what’s really wrong), building and working with my hands (sculpture, your aesthetic treatments), whole food plant based way-of-life education, and helping people really investigate their own minds and habits to break out of the ruts we create for ourselves and transform into the joyful, goal achieving, vital creatures we want to be. I do this work both in my private practice (seeing dermatology patients who either LIVE in New York state or come to see me personally in New York–with telemedicine follow up available) and in my separate coaching practice which allows me to work with clients from anywhere, as long as we are not discussing personal medical advice or dermatology advice (sorry!). Please…. reach out and let me help! Dermatology and potential dermatology patients: Find me at ArtofDermatology.com (and get onto my email list there). Coaching, plant-curious, healthy antiaging, healthy lifestyle, mindset-interested folks who want to follow my educational material (free) or potentially become coaching clients, sign up at JessicaKrant.com!

Read more…Foundational to my approach to dermatology is an understanding of how underlying states of health and disease manifest in the skin. Because I want my patients to not only look their best, but feel their best too, I take a holistic approach to optimizing the health and quality of the skin by also addressing the wellbeing of what lies beneath it. How? By including a discussion of the most effective, evidence-based, AND side-effect-free way to prevent and reverse inflammation and chronic disease — following a whole-food, plant-based diet! Why? Because I want my patients’ immune systems to not be so busy fighting dietary inflammation that they are prepared and able to stop new cancers themselves so my cancer-removing skills aren’t needed.
After doing a CO2 laser procedure to really turn-back-the-clock, I know that my patients following a plant based diet will have the added benefit of clear arteries to supply all the powerful antioxidants circulating from their meals filled with greens, beans, berries, and seeds to continuously support the newly-formed collagen from the inside-out. Additionally, whole-food, plant-based diets are unparalleled in their ability to boost fat loss while enabling lean muscle gain. This is particularly exciting for our patients seeking to jump-start their weight loss through CoolSculpting or increase their strength with the TruSculpt Flex as a whole-food, plant-based diet will not only help with immediate results, but help sustain a healthy weight and strong physique for years to come.
