A whole-food, plant-based diet (WFPBD) has been consistently associated with improved health outcomes and a reduced risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. However, the role of added oils in a health-promoting diet remains controversial.
Despite marketing claims that certain oils—such as olive oil, coconut oil, or fish oil—are beneficial, scientific evidence suggests that added oils do not contribute to optimal health and, in many cases, may increase the risk of chronic disease.
